Panic Room

Wires and locks
Walls and rejection
Rules and control
A girl nobody knows
Sat high in her tower alone
For years she watched
The people walk by
With cheery smiles and laughter,
echoing into her domain
The cars rush along,
the sound and volume her personal clock,
her indicator of time
The blissfully quiet night,
and the rumbling rush hour
Not like a princess, sitting at the top of the most dangerous dungeon,
Waiting to be saved by Prince Charming
Rather like a lone caged animal,
No one looking in, just her, always staring out at the world
Where no one knew of her existence, just an upward glance away
Waiting, wondering, dreaming
No, this isn’t some blessed fairytale and there are no happily ever afters’
The ending to this story is much more lonely
Much more cold
As the girl will simply disappear just as she lived,
and the world undisturbed while the girl who longingly wished to be a part of them
Fades away without an echo or trace
Into the void.
