Forgotten

Home has always been
Pine trees and snow
With family gathered around you
Happy to be enjoying the beauty of youth
So young and naive
So sure of family, so sure of the love
So secure in the fact that
If my friends fail, family will never give up
Little did I know
That friendships are one and few between
And family turns to ash
Left alone struggling of memories
Of what made life worth living
And those memories punishing me
Reminding myself that at one time
I had love
I had shelter
I had a family
Who knew
That family is conditional
And can be just as hateful to you
The same as any enemy you’ve met
